Geometry Show and Tell

Canned Food Drive

Our school is having a canned food drive. The class that collects the most cans wins a party.

Holiday Concert

Our Holiday Concert is next Thursday, December 15^th at 9am. We will walk to the church and walk back after it ends. Students must have a permission slip filled out by a parent or guardian in order to participate.

End of 2^nd Quarter

This Friday is the last day students may turn in work for the quarter, before report cards go home next Friday, December 16^th. This is the last day of the quarter. Do not forget it is a half day and there will be no lunch or after school.

Thanksgiving Feast

Conference Week

Homework
Every Monday, students will receive their homework packet. It is due every Friday morning. The items in the homework packet are: Spelling Words, Spelling Word activities, Math Worksheets, and a Reading Log. Students are expected to read for 15 minutes every night of the week. Parents, please sign the reading log every night that your child completely fills it out. On Fridays, students who finished all their homework and brought it to school will get to participate in the weekly reward. This includes a movie for an hour or games, and a snack. Students who did not turn in their work will finish it during this hour and will not participate in the reward.

Welcome to 3rd Grade!

Important Dates:
First Day of School: Thursday, August 11th.

Please have your child bring their school supplies with them on the first day. The important things to label with their names are: Composition notebooks, binder, notebooks, pencil box, and scissors. The other supplies will be shared by the students.

Dear Parents,

The students have worked very hard this year and have shown much progress in every subject. There will be no homework this week and we will have our end of the year party this Wednesday. If possible we will need snacks. It is a genteel electronics party. Students are encouraged to dress up with suits and dresses. They may bring their PSP, Gameboys, and DS to class during this day only.

Report Cards
This Wednesday the students will receive their report cards. There will be no afterschool classes or lunch. All students must leave school at 11:30am so please make arrangements.

Supply Lists
A supply list for 4th Grade will be available for pick up in the front office by Wednesday. This is a great way to start collecting supplies for next year early!

May 16- May 20th

Field Trip We are going to Lucky Strike Bowling on Monday, May 23rd. Students must turn in the permission form and $7 no later than Wednesday, May 18th. The permission form explains that students must know their shoe size prior to the trip. Also, we will be taking a bus that lucky strike provides. We will be back in time for a school lunch so students do not need to pack a lunch. The $7 also includes a snack for the students. Parents who come to chaperone will have to pay for their own snacks. Also, parents don’t forget to get fingerprinted in the front office.

Field DayOn Wednesday, May 18th we are having our Field Day! Students will get soaking wet so should wear a bathing suit underneath their clothes, and bring a change of clothes, extra shoes, and a towel. We are also collecting orange slices and water bottles for this day. If you can, please have your child bring some in.

HomeworkStudents will only be required to finish Reading Logs this week. Otherwise there is no homework.

Last Day of School Genteel PartyThe last day of school is a half day with no lunch or afterschool. All students must leave at 11:30. Please make arrangements. Our class will be having a Genteel Electronics Party on this day. Students must wear very nice clothing. Suits and dresses are encouraged. The students will be allowed to bring the DS and PSP Gaming Systems to class for this day only. We will also need snacks and drinks if possible.

We are going to Lucky Strike Bowling on Monday, May 23rd. Students must turn in the permission form and $7 no later than Wednesday, May 18th. The permission form explains that students must know their shoe size prior to the trip. Also, we will be taking a bus that lucky strike provides. We will be back in time for a school lunch so students do not need to pack a lunch. The $7 also includes a snack for the students. Parents who come to chaperon will have to pay for their own snacks. Also, don’t forget to get fingerprinted in the front office.

THE Test
Thank you for making sure your child was at school on time last week. The students did very well! Parents should get the results sometime during the Summer Break.

100th Day
Next Monday is the 100th day of school yeah! It is important for all students to be at school and on time. This will help our school get the funding we need for all of the special projects like dances, cook outs, Harvest Fest, and Thanksgiving Feast. One of our goals this year is to be able to purchase SmartBoards for our school to use in our classrooms. This is a very expensive technology but we feel this will greatly increase learning for our students. And all we have to do is be here! This will be a free dress down day for my class.
On this day we will be having fun games and activities. Our class will also have a contest for the student who wears the most creative 100 things. There will also be a free lunch for all students. We will fire up the grills and have a good time!

Welcome Back
To the New Year!
As the new year starts please keep in mind that the weather has gotten colder. Students can wear any jacket to school but must wear solid red, white, or navy blue sweaters or jackets in class. Also, please make sure your child is wearing solid khaki or navy bottoms and solid red, white, or navy tops. There should be no designs or logos on the uniform. On Fridays, students may wear jeans and a La Paloma top which may or may not have the school logo.

Holiday Concert
This Wednesday, December 15th we are holding our annual Holiday Concert. This will be held at Grace to the Nations Church just up the street from the school on Pima street. Then, our class will walk to Grace Temple. All parents should meet us there no later than 9am. After the concert, our class will walk back to school and finish out the morning. Thanksgiving and Heritage Feasts
Both of these events were a huge success. Thank you parents for your hard work with your children on their Heritage Boxes and the subsequent feast that we had. The food was representative of all the diverse cultures that make up our classroom. From Cuba to Denmark, and Africa to Germany, the students got to see what a wide world we live in and were exposed to some of it because of your help!
Thank you to all parents who cooked the turkeys for the children. They loved the food and we were able to even give them seconds!

Holiday Shop

Harvest Fest

This Friday is the annual Harvest Fest. All students and family members are invited to dress in their costumes and come on out to enjoy and the evening. Our class is doing a Mad Scientist booth. Candy contest

Harvest Fest

On Friday, October 29^th La Paloma will have our annual Harvest Fest from 6-8pm. There will be games, a Haunted House put on by middle school, and lots of candy and prizes for the whole family! Field Trip
I am trying to schedule a Field Trip to Apple Annie's Pumpkin Patch in Wilcox on October 22nd. Homework and Reading Logs
Last week, there were many students who did not complete all of the homework that was assigned. Most times students will have homeowork in Math and Spelling. Anything else is material that we covered during the day that they did not finish. All of these must be turned in the next day. All students must take their homework home to be checked by parents for accuacy. Also, Reading logs are on the back of these newsletters. Pelase make sure your child is reading for 15 minutes Monday through Thursday. These Reading Logs must be turned in every Friday morning.

Graded Work
Students wll recieve graded work on Mondays. Homework is graded on a scale of 0 to 3 points for each page face. There will be a check and a number indicating how many points were earned for each assignment. Tests and quizzes will be graded on a percentage scale where 0% is the lowest score and 100% is the hightest score. If a student recieves a really low score on an assignment, please review it with your child and send it back with the new answers. They will be given a 1/2 grade point for these.

Welcome to the third grade! We are going to learn a lot this year, in fun and interesting ways. I am really looking forward to spending this year with all of you.

I will see students on the first day of school, Thursday, August 12th, 2010. Please refer to the supply list above when purchasing supplies for our classroom. Please have your child bring any supplies they have with them on the first day of school.

The first day of school is a full day. We have lunch at 12:10 p.m. Please bring a snack to eat during snack time, as it is a long time before we eat lunch. Students will need to bring a lunch from home, or they can eat the school lunch. Students may also bring a water bottle to keep at their desk for when they are thirsty.

I will be at school beginning Monday, August 9th, 2010. During that time, I will be making sure the room is ready and attending meetings. Although, I can't guarantee when I will be available, due to the meetings, I would enjoy meeting students before school starts. At your convenience, please stop by and see the room, and me.

Dear Parents,

We are in the last week of school. The students have worked very hard this year and have shown much progress in every subject. There will be no homework this week. We will have our end of the year party this Thursday. Please have your child bring in a snack for the class. This will also be a party for kids who have birthdays during summer break.

Report Cards

Research Paper
Last week, students chose an inventor that they would like to do research on. The students have found lots of really good information. We are doing most of the writing and research at school, however some students will need a little more time at home in order to finish. Please check with your child if this is the case. Report Cards

Dress Down Day
This Tuesday, May 11th is the girls free dress down day for winning the Penny War. Only the girls may wear appropriate casual clothing. All boys must be in uniform.

Field Day
This Wednesday, May 12th is Field Day. Girls may wear bathing suits but must have a t-shirt and shorts on over it. Boys must wear a t-shirt and shorts. Please have your child bring a change of clothes in their backpack. All of the students will get soaking wet. Also, sunscreen and a bottle of water will be needed. AIMS Testing
Assignments
The students will have no homework or spelling words this week so that they can focus on the AIMS test. We will be completing most of our assignments in class. There will also be no tests this week.

Attendance
Students should come to class on time this week. Students who arrive after testing has started will not be admitted to class and will have to wait in the office until all classes are finished testing for the day. If a student misses part of the test, he/she will have to make it up the follwing week.

AIMS Test
Next week our school will be taking the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS). It is the states standardized test. As a result, there will be no homework next week. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest every night and comes to school on time. We will be taking the test first thing every morning. Students in my class will be allowed to bring gum to chew during test times only. Any gum seen before or after test times next week will result in detention for that student. The results will be mailed to parents sometime in June or July.

Olympics
3rd and 4th Grade has been studying Greek and Roman history. We will be having our own Olympic Games on Wednesday, April 28th. I will be giving more details later.

Field Trip

The field trip to see Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief will be at Park Place Mall on Tuesday, February 23^rd. We will leave the school promptly at 8:45am using the school vans. Valentine's Kudos
Thank you parents for such a wonderful Valentine's Party. I can honestly say that this was the best Valentine's Party in my 7 years of teaching. We had a strawberries, cheese, salami, and cracker tray from Mr. and Mrs. Young, cut oranges from Mrs. Ballasteros, Pizza from Mrs. Shanks, Eegees from Mrs. Thompson, brownies from Mrs. Rosler, chips from Mr. and Mrs. Villasenor, tubs of cotton candy from Mr. and Mrs. Folsom, and I hope I didn't miss anyone but if I did, know that I am very thankful. Valentine's Day Party

Our class will be having a Valentine's Day party on Friday, February 12th. Please have your child bring in their Valentine's. We will have the party during the last hour of the day. I would like students to bring in healthy snacks for the students. Most students said they love watermelon, honeydew melon, strawberries, oranges, grapes, and vegetables. This is the time of year where there are many new concepts that I will be introducing to the students. We have finished learning the multiplication table and now we will be doing plenty of drills and multiplication work to reinforce them. Please continue to practice the multiplication facts through the twelves with your child. In Science, we are learning about the lifecycles of animals. We will be monitoring the live cycle of a mealworm. At the end of this, each students will have a beetle to take home. In History, we ware learning about the Greeks and Romans. The students have been keeping a folder of the information they have learned.

Grandparents Day
On Wednesday, February 24th at 9:30am, all Grandparents of students are invited to come into the classroom and enjoy activities together. At 10:15, students and Grandparents will eat a special lunch provided by the school. So mark your calendars!

Wednesday is the 100th day of school and La Paloma is celebrating with a free lunch for all students! They may also wear jeans and an appropriate t-shirt free of charge.

Homework
There seems to be a sharp decline in homework recently. I've seen more than the usual amount of students having no homework. Please check your child's homework journal every night to make sure they are doing their homework. Each student should be able to show you their homework upon demand.

Supplies
Its about that time of year again when we are running low on supplies. Please have your child bring in 2 packages of pencils and 1 package of glue sticks.

Reading Blitz
La Paloma is taking part in the Bookmans Reading Challenge. All students were given 2 reading logs, one for home and one for school. While we will be working hard to finish our logs at school, I encourage you to speak with your child about finishing their logs at home too. Every month, the winning classroom gets a prize. At the end of March, Bookmans will award $15,000 to the school that records the most reading on their logs. With your help, I hope our class can win every month and our school can win the grand prize! These logs will replace the normal reading logs on the back of the newsletters.

Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday
There is no school next Monday. There will be a march starting at the UofA Old Main building to Reid Park to honor MLK Jr. This is a public event that I usually take part in every year. Hopefully I will see everyone there!

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to LPA! We are halfway through the school year. There are many projects that the students will be completing this semester. We have the 100th day of school coming up and we are going to need parents help with the fun activities we have planned. We will also need parents to help with our own LPA Olympics to culminate our Social Studies unit on Greek and Roman life. So please keep an eye out for these things in the weeks ahead.

Not only was the Thanksgiving Feast a great success, but the many events throughout this quarter, including the Heritage Feast have really been great. Thanks for all of your hard work!

**FYI to Parents
The Christmas Program is on Wednesday, December 9th at 9:00am. We are going to walk to Grace Temple under police escort. The permission forms must be signed and returned no later than Tuesday, December 8th. Students without a permission form will not be allowed to participate. Please come and watch the children sing Feliz Navidad! If you would like to take your child home right after, just sign them out with me. I will be with my class so just let me know and they can go home.

Heritage Boxes

Kudos to Parents
1. Pumpkins
Thanks to all parents who brought in pumpkins and extra ones too. Because of the extras that some students brought, we were able to give each student a pumpkin to paint and take home.
2. Harvest Fest
Thanks to all of you who came and had a good time. It was definitely a hit! Our class ended up bringing in 28lbs of candy. We also had a great class harvest party. Thanks for the apples, cheese its, doughnuts, Capri suns, animal crackers, pretzels, tortilla chips, and cheetoes!

Harvest Fest

Heritage Feast

Pumpkins
Parents, please have your child bring in one of those small mini-pumpkins to class by this Friday, October 23rd. We will be decorating these pumpkins.

Harvest Fest
The annual La Paloma Harvest fest will be held on Friday, October 30th from 6-9pm. Our class is responsible for bringing the hamburger buns. Please bring these buns a couple of days before that Friday. Our class is also participating in the candy contest. Starting today, please bring in as much candy as possible. The class with the most candy will win a prize!

Academia
Math: We are starting to learn our multiplication facts. So far we have learned the 7, 5, and 2 facts. Please review these facts with your child.
Phonics/Spelling: Final stable syllables are words with endings of ble,ple,zle,dle,kle,tle. They are stable because they do not change in pronunciation.
Science: Light and sound will be studied. If you know of some great projects/experiments in this area, let me know so that we can do them.
English: Verbs
Writing: Planning and writing a full paragraph. Similes and metaphors
Reading: Olga da Polga. A guinea pig goes on adventures.

Greetings,

La Paloma Academy Central Campus will be holding its annual Open House on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. During open house there will be many different things going on. Our Book Fair will be open in the library. The Pima County Library will be on campus for your child to get his/her library card. You may also preorder yearbooks for the 2009-2010 school year.

I will have several examples of your child’s work available for your review. While we do not have the time to discuss your child’s performance in detail I would be willing to schedule a private conference if you desire. I do hope to briefly explain some of the activities we will be doing this year and to respond to any questions you might have about our class.

I value the help and support my students receive at home. Together we can assure that your child has a successful year. I hope to see you at the open house.

Hello and welcome to my blog. My full name is Caroline Dzodzomenyo. I have been teaching 3rd grade for 7 years now. I have taught at the Lakeside, and Midtown LPA campuses and this is my second year teaching at the Central Campus.

This blog will be an excellent place to find information from various things throughout the year. I will post things like newsletters, spelling words, and other important info about upcoming events throughout the school year.
